Eva’s House
A future home for dignified end-of-life transitions
Eva’s House is a developing community-centered care project created to support individuals and families during one of life’s most sacred transitions—the end of life.
Many people wish to spend their final days in a peaceful, home-like environment surrounded by loved ones. However, not every family has the space, resources, or support to make that possible at home. Eva’s House is being created as a gentle middle ground between hospital settings and home—a place where comfort, dignity, and presence guide the experience.
This vision is part of my larger work as a full-spectrum doula supporting families through birth, postpartum recovery, miscarriage and infant loss, and end-of-life care.
The story behind the name
Eva’s House is named in honor of three generations of women in my family who carried the name Eva.
My great-grandmother Eva lived to be 104 years old and was a pillar of our family whose life began just beyond the shadow of slavery. My grandmother—who I lovingly called Mommom—shared her name and, before she passed, clearly expressed her wishes to remain at home and be cared for with intention and dignity. I was honored to carry out those wishes for her.
Today, my daughter also carries the name Eva.
Eva’s House is being created in honor of their legacy and the belief that every person deserves presence, comfort, and choice at the end of life.
The long-term vision
Eva’s House will one day include:
a peaceful, non-clinical transition space for end-of-life care
herbal support grown through a small homestead apothecary
sliding-scale access for families needing support
a place where loved ones can gather without institutional barriers
community-centered education around natural transitions at birth and end of life
This work honors both how we enter the world and how we leave it.
