Pregnancy Purse Essentials: Mom’s Personal Pit Crew

We spend so much time talking about the diaper bag and everything baby will need once they arrive—but what about Mom before baby gets here?

Pregnancy changes the way you move through your day. Your commute may take a little more planning. Your bladder may have its own schedule. Smells you never noticed before can suddenly become unbearable. You may be hungry again five minutes after eating, sweating more than usual, or carrying around a spit cup like it’s your most trusted accessory. 😂

As pregnancy progresses, your everyday purse starts looking a little different, too.

You’re not just carrying your wallet, keys, and lip gloss anymore. You become your own personal pit crew.

And honestly? That’s okay. Preparing for your own comfort is part of preparing for baby.

🤰 First Trimester: “Help Me Get Through the Day”

The first trimester is often about managing nausea, exhaustion, changing hormones, and figuring out what your body suddenly does and doesn’t like.

The second trimester can bring some relief, but now you may notice more changes in your bladder, body temperature, appetite, sweat, smell sensitivity, and overall comfort.

Your purse starts becoming less about simply getting through nausea and more about staying comfortable while you’re out living your life.

🤰 Third Trimester: “Just Put It in the Trunk.” 😂

By the third trimester, I fully support admitting that your purse does not need to carry your entire life.

Keep the everyday essentials in your purse, but consider creating a well-stocked pregnancy bag for the trunk.

Because sometimes you leave the house thinking you’re going to be gone for an hour… and suddenly you’re stuck in traffic, headed to an unexpected appointment, or wishing you had a clean pair of underwear.

And yes, sometimes pregnancy means planning around your bladder a little differently. I had a commute where traffic was so bad that I literally had to wear a diaper on the way home. 😂 That experience alone taught me: prepare for the situation you actually have, not the one you wish you had.

📝 And Don’t Forget the Notebook

This one sounds small, but keep a little notebook and pen in your purse.

Because pregnancy brain is real—and somehow you will have the best idea, question, reminder, baby name thought, nursery idea, grocery item, appointment question, or random thing you absolutely cannot forget…

…and then you’ll think:

“I’ll put it in my Notes app.”

And somehow you won’t. 😂

A tiny notebook gives you somewhere to immediately put it.

Write down:

  • Questions for your next appointment

  • Things you want to ask your doula

  • Random ideas

  • Things you need to buy

  • Baby names

  • Things you want to remember

  • Thoughts you have during the day

  • Anything that pops into your head before it disappears

The Bottom Line

Your pregnancy purse doesn’t have to be huge, expensive, or perfectly organized.

It just needs to work for the version of you that exists right now.

First trimester may mean keeping nausea at bay.

Second trimester may mean staying fresh, fed, and comfortable.

Third trimester may mean carrying a little less in your purse and keeping a whole backup bag in the trunk.

Because before baby ever needs a diaper bag, Mom needs a bag, too.

You are growing a whole human. You deserve to make your day a little easier.
